Softchalk Lesson Builder

Below are the links to my Softchalk Lesson, the zipped version of my lesson, and my evaluations. Overall, I think this software could definitely enhance the learning process, but could not replace instruction. I had a very hard time linking the the lesson. I stumbled on how to do it by accident. In my frustration, I was just going to link the whole folder from my ftp site in hopes that my professor could figure it out. Then when I tested the address, thank goodness, my lesson came up :-) I also just realized that I didnt include a header in this version. I had such problems with this assignment and I don't know if you can edit a packaged lesson.

WebQuest

Two weeks really flew by, but I have put together the final version of my webquest. It is a far cry from "Echos of a Dream." The forum I used is webs.com. They offer free services, and also premium services. I based my webquest on the five stages of the writing process. I included links to a PP presentation as an example and to a rubric that the students final paper will be graded by.

Social Networking

Altough social networking is very popular, I had no idea it was such a hot topic and loads of research being done behind it. I do think it is a good idea for schools to implement their own filtered social network.

Podcast Lesson Plan and Assessment

For this lesson plan, we were supposed to use a plan which we could use in one of our education classes that involves podcasting. I decided to base my lesson off of the podcast I made for the previous assignment. I used Fairmont State's lesson plan format and mocked up a worksheet I would use for the assessment. I used the ftp site in order to get my links.

Podcast and Script

Finally, after several takes and edits, I have completed my podcast and this is how I did it. I downloaded Audicity. I used version 1.2.7 because the site said that they were still working out the bugs on the latest beta version. Then I gathered my matierals for my script and picked out a song that I thought was appropriate for my topic. After I recorded a version of my podcast I was somewhat happy with, I exported it as a WAV file. There was also an option to export as an MP3, but I needed to download lame something or other and I couldnt figure it out. After it was downloaded, I put it on my ftp site along with the script. Sooooo here they are

Desktop Graphic

When creating the image I considered two programs, Paint Shop Pro 7 and Microsoft Paint. The program I chose was Microsoft Paint. The reason I chose this program is because I am so familiar with it. I am still in the process of figuring out Paint Shop Pro. Also, I wasn't going to create any moving imagery, so Paint Shop Pro wasn't really necessary. I am unsatisfied with the lack of clarity of the image. The file type is JPEG. the size is 21.8 KB (22,365 bytes). The program that opens it is Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, however, I can change this. I acquired the image from http://www.mypyramid.gov/. I know that when I am teaching, I will rely heavily on technology. So, most likely, I will incorporate images into almost everything I teach. For example math, I will use images instead of only using numbers, graphs, charts, pies, and so on. I will use images for inspiration when writing and comprehension when learning. When teaching geography, students can create images of the states or create legends on maps.

Still Images --Reading

I completed the reading assignment and published my paper using google documents. I found the reading very interesting and it is funny how we take things at face value instead of doing the research ourselves.
